End-Use
Energy Conversion

HyLab’s final goal is to create a worldwide reference Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+I) cluster with a strategic agenda focused on strengthening hydrogen competitiveness and creation of new products and services. Moreover, the HyLab will foster innovation, addressing the relevant supply chain components to enable a hydrogen-driven economy and to promote skilled and value-added job creation.
It targets a gap between the academia and industrial ecosystems in the implementation of green hydrogen to boost the energy transition and to tackle the energy transition challenges, through the entire hydrogen value chain.
The HyLab involves valuable national and international R&D institutes, academia, industry companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and hydrogen-related technology manufacturing industries.
We are looking for a Researcher Electrical Systems Engineering who will report to the Lead Research on Energy Conversion and will have the mission to Develop applied research and innovation activities in of Electrical Systems Engineering, namely on control algorithms and electrical systems design in hydrogen-powered transportation.
You will be challenged with:

  • Design innovative control algorithms for electrical propulsion systems in ships, rail, and long-haul trucking to optimize energy conversion and usage.
  • Develop energy management tools tailored to each transportation mode through case studies.
  • Research diagnostic tools to mitigate operational failures in the transportation sector.
  • Collaborate on R&D projects, particularly those aligned with the Mobilizing Agendas of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, focusing on Electrical Systems Engineering.
  • Cooperate with project partners to ensure the successful delivery of technical work and the preparation of related project reports.
  • Provide specialized services to industry customers and partners.
  • Participate in activities to disseminate scientific knowledge, including writing scientific articles, conference papers, and communications.
Who are we looking for:
  • Master’s degree in educational background in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in designing and simulating equivalent electrical circuits and energy conversion pathways involving hydrogen.
  • Experimental experience in power electronics is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in software for electrical and energy systems simulation, such as MATLAB/Simulink and HOMER.
  • Strong programming skills in Python are advantageous.
  • Proficiency level in English C1.

Why join us:

  • You will be challenged with unusual problems and will have the opportunity to uncover solutions with a high environmental impact.
  • You will be working in an innovation environment, together with some of the most knowledgeable researchers in Europe.
  • You will have a career as a Researcher in one of the most promising technologies in the energy industry.
  • You will have the opportunity to definitively move to Sines, Portugal, or to work there at least for 3 days per week on the brand new HyLab headquarters.
  • Your talent will be rewarded with a competitive salary package.
