Researcher - Energy Conversion Systems Prototyping

End-Use

Energy Conversion

HyLab’s final goal is to create a worldwide reference Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+I) cluster with a strategic agenda focused on strengthening hydrogen competitiveness and creation of new products and services. Moreover, the HyLab will foster innovation, addressing the relevant supply chain components to enable a hydrogen-driven economy and to promote skilled and value-added job creation.
It targets a gap between the academia and industrial ecosystems in the implementation of green hydrogen to boost the energy transition and to tackle the energy transition challenges, through the entire hydrogen value chain.
The HyLab involves valuable national and international R&D institutes, academia, industry companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and hydrogen-related technology manufacturing industries.
We are looking for a Researcher - Energy Conversion Systems Prototyping who will report to the Lead Research on Energy Conversion and will have the mission to Develop applied research and innovation activities in Systems Prototyping, namely on new combustion chambers design, integration and monitoring during testing.
You will be challenged with:

  • Designing and prototyping innovative combustion chambers for integration into industrial-scale combustion technologies.
  • Implementing sensors and automated data acquisition systems at both chamber and system levels.
  • Defining operational parameters for the new combustion system when using fuels derived from hydrogen.
  • Collaborating on R&D projects, particularly those aligned with the Mobilizing Agendas of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, with a focus on Systems Prototyping.
  • Cooperating with project partners to ensure the successful delivery of technical work and the preparation of related project reports.
  • Providing specialized services to industry customers and partners.
  • Participating in activities to disseminate scientific knowledge, including writing scientific articles, conference papers, and communications.
Who are we looking for:
  • Master’s degree in mechanical, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in designing and conceptualizing new prototypes at small and/or preindustrial scales.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition workflows.
  • Experimental experience in electronic circuits and sensing would be advantageous.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English at level C1 or above.
Why join us:
  • You will be challenged with unusual problems and will have the opportunity to uncover solutions with a high environmental impact.
  • You will be working in an innovation environment, together with some of the most knowledgeable researchers in Europe.
  • You will have a career as a Researcher in one of the most promising technologies in the energy industry.
  • You will have the opportunity to definitively move to Sines, Portugal, or to work there at least for 3 days per week on the brand new HyLab headquarters.
  • Your talent will be rewarded with a competitive salary package.
